Going Analog: Art Markers

I've been struggling with a really bad cough for these past two weeks (among other problems) and I haven't had much time and energy to update this blog as much as I'd like. Something I really wanted to share, though, is how I recently fell in love with art markers. It was during the storm Pedring, when my whole neighborhood had a power outage that lasted the whole day. If I stayed in my apartment, I would have either died from heat (no power means no fans, and the rain was too strong to keep the windows open) or boredom.

Since all my tech was running out of battery life, I had to look for entertainment elsewhere. I remembered that Fully Booked downstairs (I live on top of a mall. Convenient, yes?) stocked some art markers, so I went to see how much they were. The marker sets that I really wanted were way too expensive for me at the time, but I did find a set of markers that was in my budget.

Here's a photo of something I sketched out with the markers I bought. I cropped it since the hand over her head looked really awkward. I haven't really been drawing with real pencils and paper for a while so I feel a bit rusty when it comes to drawing analog.
I've also been reacquainting myself with some common problems that I don't encounter when I draw digitally: the type of paper needed for markers (they bleed on normal paper), dirt from rubber erasers (I actually didn't have a single rubber eraser in my apartment until a few days ago), not having a pencil sharpener, having to wait for your inks to dry, not having a scanner, etc.

I don't think I'll ever be switching back to drawing with traditional media, but the art markers do make me want to explore it again some more.
